Travertine Stone

What kind of stone is travertine?

It is a type of porous limestone that is considered as a decorative stone.

This rock is left from the mineral water sediments of caves or hot springs or from the sediments of the seas and rivers, which are seen as relatively wide areas.

The specific weight of travertine is 2500 kg per cubic meter.

Travertine stone is resistant to climate change, rain and snow and is also diverse in terms of color. Travertine stones in nature are white, cream, chocolate, red, walnut, yellow, lemon, silver and chocolate. And no space is defined for the use of travertine. Travertines can be used both in the exterior of buildings and indoors.

Application of travertine

Due to the increase in demand, the per capita production of travertine in our country has increased in recent years. In the years before 1381, this type of stone was known as a cheap stone and was not considered in the domestic market until the resin entered the market. And the replacement of resin instead of using putty and cement to fill surface porosity, the use of travertine stone was welcomed and also its unique beauty along with reasonable price has increased sales in the market.

This stone is used for outdoor space; It is usually 1 inch thick but may change up to 2 inches.

The thickest type is for cold environments to prevent stone from being damaged in the freezing and thawing cycle. All these different thicknesses are suitable for the pool wall.

Its special texture and non-slip is due to its small cavities.

Travertine can also be used in interior parts of the building, such as stairs. The reason is the high susceptibility of travertine stone, which can be used in interior parts of your building like foreign projects.

Each stone is suitable for use in specific situations and places, and for different applications, the appropriate type should be used. Facade stone should have high resistance to heat, humidity, cold and UV rays of the sun

For this purpose, travertine, granite, porcelain and sandstone are technically the best types of facade stones, respectively, and by considering the items of cost, availability and taste, you can choose from these items.

Advantages of travertine
The surface of the travertine always stays cool; So it is a good choice for swimming pool and yard in hot weather.
High susceptibility of travertine
Its most common colors are affordable.
Its porous texture is a barrier to slipping.
Instead of using mortar, the stone can be dried.
The luxurious texture of travertine brings a spectacular view.
Travertine does not fade.
Disadvantages of travertine
Non-uniformity of color and design is one of the disadvantages of travertine stone and also its low resistance to cold. If the travertine stone is wet and the ambient temperature reaches freezing temperature, this stone will be crushed immediately and therefore, during long-term storage of travertine cups in cold weather, they must be covered.
Another disadvantage of travertine is its relatively high water absorption. This disadvantage also with the entry of resin into the market and its use during processing and polishing, reduces the amount of water absorption and one of its advantages is that the stone gets dirty later. Therefore, the quality of sub and resin used during processing have a significant effect on the durability and beauty of travertine.

Travertine stone color

Travertine has thermal and sound insulation properties due to its cavities. Travertine has an acceptable strength. This stone can be cut into 2 shapes with and without waves. Among the types of travertines, white travertines that have more uniform color veins and porosity are of higher quality.

The reason for the presence of pale travertines can be attributed to the presence of dispersed pigments of iron oxide in the text of travertine stones. The beautiful appearance of travertines is due to the difference in the amount of iron oxide in its different layers.

What is related to the price of travertine in the Iranian building stone market is the most important parameter is that the closer the color of the stone to light colors, the more expensive the price of that stone will be.

The most important travertine quarry mines in Iran are Hajiabad travertine, Darreh Bukhari travertine, Azarshahr travertine, Kashan Silver travertine, Agha Mohammadi chocolate travertine and Abyaneh travertine. The most exported travertine stones in Iran are Silver Travertine, Azarshahr Red Travertine, Lemon Travertine, Darreh Bukhari Travertine.
